# Photography My passion. My [main photo site](https://photos.deepaksingh.net) is where the finished work lives; this note is where I think about *what* I photograph and *why*. I don't shoot one thing. Over time a handful of distinct threads have emerged — each with its own eye, its own patron saints, its own reason for pulling me out the door. ## Wildlife (mostly birds) The thread I share most with my son. Patience photography: long lenses, early mornings, and a lot of waiting. Birds are the main quarry, but anything that moves is fair game. It's as much about being outside and learning to see the animal before the camera does as it is about the frame. ## Light & Shadow The most painterly thread — chasing the way light falls rather than the subject it falls on. Reflections, silhouettes, fog, the color that bleeds through a rain-streaked window. Less "what is this" and more "look what the light did." Heavily inspired by **Saul Leiter**, **Arthur Meyerson**, **Sean Tucker**, and **Maarten Rots**. ## Street & the Character of Cities Photographing the personality of a place — the rhythm, color, and small human moments that make one city feel unlike any other. Motion, warmth, and a painter's sense of color rather than the classic decisive-moment monochrome. Heavily inspired by **Ernst Haas**. ## Everyday Things Finding the photograph in the ordinary — the overlooked object, the banal made strange and beautiful through color and attention. The discipline of shooting what's in front of you rather than travelling somewhere "photogenic." Heavily influenced by **William Eggleston**. ## Travel The wide net — landscape, culture, wildlife, and street all at once, shaped by being somewhere new.
